3.
弟子たちよ、おまえたちはこの教えのもとに、相和し、相敬い、争いを起こしてはならない。
"You should respect each other, follow my teachings, and refrain from disputes;
水と乳とのように和合せよ。水と油のようにはじきあってはならない。
you should not, like water and oil, repel each other, but should, like milk and water,
mingle together.
ともにわたしの教えを守り、ともに学び、ともに修め、励ましあって、道の楽しみをともにせよ。
Study together, learn together, practice my teachings together.
つまらないことに心をつかい、むだなことに時をついやさず、
Do not waste your mind and time in idleness and quarreling.
さとりの花を摘み、道の果実を取るがよい。
Enjoy the blossoms of Enlightenment in their season and harvest the fruit of the right path.
弟子たちよ、わたしは自らこの教えをさとり、おまえたちのためにこの教えを説いた。
The teachings which I have given you, I gained by following the path myself.
おまえたちはよくこれを守って、ことごとにこの教えに従って行わなければならない。
You should follow these teachings and conform to their spirit on every occasion.
だから、この教えのとおりに行わない者は、わたしに会っていながらわたしに会わず、
If you neglect them, it means that you have never really met me.
わたしと一緒にいながらわたしから遠く離れている。
It means that you are far from me, even if you are actually with me;
また、この教えのとおりに行う者は、
but if you accept and practice my teachings,
たとえわたしから遠く離れていてもわたしと一緒にいる。
then you are very near to me, even though you are far away."
